Religious Education

Intent: Our Religious Education curriculum is high-quality, coherent and progressive, supporting pupils’ cognitive, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

Aims: In line with the Leicestershire Agreed Syllabus 2021–2026, RE helps pupils understand a range of religious and non-religious beliefs, how these beliefs are expressed and lived out, and how to reflect thoughtfully on key questions and ideas. Pupils are encouraged to think critically, make connections, and articulate their own views respectfully. At Wellington, teachers work collaboratively using progression and knowledge maps to ensure learning is well sequenced and prepares pupils for the next stage of their education.

Right for Parents to Withdraw their Children from RE, Collective Worship & Sex & Relationship Education: In England and Wales parents have the statutory right under Section 71 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 to withdraw their children from RE lessons and acts of Collective Worship in schools. However, before exercising any right of withdrawal, we would ask that you request a meeting with a member of the Senior Leadership team to discuss your concerns. Should a pupil be withdrawn from those learning activities/lessons, they will be directed to complete independent tasks.
